Dal Lake


Dal Lake, the jewel of Srinagar, epitomizes the town's essence, spanning 15 kilometers and ranking as Jammu & Kashmir's second-largest lake. The serene Dal Lake mirrors Pir Panjal's snow-dusted peaks, with vibrant shikaras and timeless houseboats enhancing its beauty.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is the largest tulip garden in Asia which is set in the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range in Srinagar. Formerly known as Model Floriculture Center, it overlooks the mesmerising Dal Lake. The Tulip Garden is home to flowers like roses, daffodils, hyacinths, iris amongst 48 varieties of tulips. The Tulip Festival held here is the highlight which attracts tourists from the world over.

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is spread across seven terraces and is built in a sloping ground fashion. The Tulip Festival organised here is an annual event arranged by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir during the onset of the spring season (between March and May)

The Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar, situated atop Shankaracharya Hill and dedicated to Lord Shiva, stands as one of Kashmir's oldest shrines. Also known as Jyesteshwara Temple, it honors the philosopher Shankaracharya, who visited Srinagar a millennium ago. The temple houses the revered Shiva Linga, and legend holds that Shankaracharya attained spiritual enlightenment here, leading to the establishment of the four Hindu schools of Advaita.

Accessed by around 243 steps, the temple, set on a solid rock, offers a breathtaking view of the valley. Open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, vehicular entry is restricted after 5:00 PM, preserving a tranquil ambiance. Pilgrims and tourists, especially those en route to Amarnath Yatra, frequent the temple, seeking spiritual solace and marveling at its historical and religious significance.
